39 Arch Street, new Haven

On April 25, Raise the Roof joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven and the family of Yvette and Jeyser to mark the official start of building their home at 39 Arch Street, New Haven.

The Raise the Roof community has been honored to partner with Yvette and Jeyser as they have worked tirelessly toward building a home for their family and their three teenage children. Two of their children have been old enough to build with Habitat and have been on-site working on the house they’ll call home. Watch our video of their journey to home.

Two Habitat homes have been built on Arch Street. One is the home that the Raise the Roof community has helped Yvette and Jeyser build, and the other is at 35 Arch Street. (Psssst… we’ve gotten to help on that one, too.) 😊

Both of these Arch Street homes have been built to include an ADU (accessory dwelling unit)—a one-bedroom rental apartment that homeowners can use to help support their mortgage payments. These units may:

• Provide additional affordable housing
• Support multi-generational living
• Offer an “aging in place” option
• Create housing for students or young adults
• Provide supplemental income for homeowners

These are the first Habitat for Humanity homes to be built with rental units. Jeyser and Yvette and the homeowners of 35 Arch Street have completed additional education to prepare for this unique opportunity.

Both the main homes and ADUs will be energy efficient, Net-Zero Ready, and built to Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven’s high standards. Each rental unit will include a private entrance and private basement access.
