How To Volunteer

  • Help us build at 387 Lenox Street, the future home of Edwin and Ada Sanchez and their son Edwin. We have upcoming dates for individual volunteers to register or sign up with a friend (or two.) These dates are Tuesday August 14 – Thursday Aug 16 and Saturday August 18. Volunteers must be at least 16, and no prior building experience is necessary. The workday runs from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Email us at contactus@raisetheroofct.org. We can also help you find other dates and volunteer possibilities.

Saturdays are typically reserved for groups. If you are part of an interested group—work, church, school, civic, neighborhood—please email us at contactus@raisetheroofct.org. On most Saturdays, groups of up to 10 people can be accommodated. Raise the Roof’s Volunteer Coordinator and team will help you designate a build coordinator within your group and get registered.

  • Volunteer Registration

  • 1. Everyone must complete the one-time registration process. Click here to access the ‘VolunteerUp’ page on the Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven website. At the top of the page there is a ‘Volunteer’ tab with a drop-down menu that includes ‘Volunteer FAQ’. Read through the FAQ to learn more about what you can expect at a build.

    2. When you are ready to register, go back and click the ‘VolunteerUp’ button in the center of the page. Click on the ‘Register’ button under ‘I am a New Volunteer!’

    3. Fill in the requested information to create a “Profile” with user name and password for future use.

    4. The registration form includes the “Groups/Teams” section where you can check off the groups that you might like to volunteer with. At a minimum, check off “Raise the Roof”.

    5. Especially during the summer, note that you may volunteer as an individual during the week. Those slots also appear on the calendar.

    6. After registration is completed, go back to the Calendar to click on the work date you’d like to choose. You will receive an automatic confirmation email from VolunteerUp with information on time to arrive, the waiver, etc.

    7. A new registered user should receive a confirmation to their email address from VolunteerUp.

    8. Registered users will be able to look at the Calendar at any time to see who has volunteered on specific days.

NOTE: All volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the work site. Neither Habitat nor Raise the Roof can provide or arrange transportation.

  • Habitat ReStore in Wallingford

Have a heart for shopping, Habitat, and helping? Have we got a deal for you! Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven’s ReStore have the opportunity to peruse treasures that include new and gently used furniture, appliances, kitchen cabinets, sinks, tools, lighting, and more, all while getting to meet other Restore volunteers, Habitat homeowners, and customers. Volunteers help with greeting and assisting customers and organizing and creating displays, and the ReStore proceeds support Habitat’s home building program in Greater New Haven.

The ReStore is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm and Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Volunteers may assist for the full day or half the day. High school and college students working on community service hours are welcome. Shoppers are welcome, too! For more information about volunteering, please contact Allison Mangles, Volunteer Coordinator, at (203) 785-0794 ext. 110 or
    amangles@habitatgnh.org.
